As of May 1st 2026, Ontario increased the micro-grid capacity from 10kw to 12kw, which means you can get more solar for your home without a pre-approval from the local utility, Connection Impact Assessment (CIA) are now only required for systems above the 12kw threshold. Which in layman’s terms means more solar panels can be installed now without a lengthy engineering study. Before using 450w solar panels a home would max out around 26-29 panels, now you can put up to 32-35 panels.
